It’s insane to think that a celebrity would marry an everyday person or someone with little to moderate success, but it happens. Usually, these people like to date within their circle, or at the very least, those who make the kind of money that they do. But not everyone follows that trend.
In fact, some of the biggest names in Hollywood have ventured outside the norm and married regular people who just happened to be their fans. They include the likes of Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Elvis Presley and more.
These are the marriages that give us hope that maybe we too can marry the star of our dreams one day!
Matt Damon met his wife, Luciana, back in 2003 while she was waitressing and bartending in Miami, whilst Matt was also filming the comedy Stuck On You. Damon was instantly mesmerized by his future wife’s looks, claiming that it was love, at first sight, knowing that one day Luciana will become Mrs Damon.
By that time, Matt had already starred in films like Saving Private Ryan, Ocean’s Eleven and The Bourne Identity.
Although she was a big fan, rumour has it that she wasn’t keen on the idea of dating someone so famous. Eventually, she gave in; the couple married a short two years later and have three beautiful children together.
The couple has turned out to be one of the most adorable in Hollywood today. There’s no drama at all and Matt continues to get tongue-tied about his love for her, even all these years later.
Even Luciana’s ex-husband approves of the union and loves Matt as a stepfather to his daughter.
Sandra Bullock was a big fan of the Monster Garage show- a program where Jesse James would customize motorcycles. She organized a tour for her and her godson and that was how she ended up meeting him her future ex-husband!
They dated for a couple of years and by 2005 they had already walked down the aisle. Unfortunately, this marriage ended in a disaster when it was finally disclosed that Jesse had been having multiple affairs with many different women whilst married to Speed actress.
Jesse even checked himself into rehab for a sex addiction while Sandra filed for divorce in 2010.
The Oscar-winning actress has been single since her divorce, but has found love in the hearts of two young children she adopted; the first in 2010 and the second one in 2015.
Rumour has it that Jesse, who has been in quite a few relationships since Sandra, continues to cheat, even though he has remarried.
Mariah Carey’s case of marrying a fan is pretty unusual because the man she ended up saying “I do” to already had some success as an actor, a musician and was already a TV persona.
When she and Nick Cannon married in 2008, his career took off and it was rumoured that she negotiated his contract as the host of America’s Got Talent. They had a set of twins a few years into their marriage but chose to part ways in 2014.
Following the divorce, she nearly married another fan, billionaire James Packer, but that their engagement ended horribly with a court case.
Mariah ended up suing James and received a “multi-million-dollar settlement” for her trouble; Nick did not get involved in any of the drama but was at her side as a friend.
Since the James and Mariah split, the We Belong Together singer has been dating one of her tour dancers, Bryan Tanaka, a man thirteen years her junior.
Alice Kim was an aspiring actress herself when she met mega actor and Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage. Their paths crossed while Kim was working as a waitress and according to her, she was taken aback and it came to her as a shock that, someone she admired so grandly and a man who could have had any woman he wanted, wanted to indeed date her, out of all the women out there!
The duo married the same year his divorce to Elvis Presley’s daughter was finalized and had a baby the following year. Sadly, the relationship did not last and they separated back in 2016.
Three years later, in March of 2019, Nicolas married Erika Koike, a woman 21 years younger than him, presumably another fan of his.
Cage wanted to recall his decision and proceeded to file for an annulment just four days later, stating that he was too drunk to fully understand what he was doing.
A very Pretty Woman like Julia Roberts is not easy to impress, but Daniel Moder, a huge fan of hers, managed to sweep her off her feet!
At the time they met, Moder was working as one of the cinematographers on Julia’s ‘The Mexican” film in 2000 and was truly mesmerised by the beautiful star.
Funnily enough, Julia is said to have been in a relationship with Benjamin Bratt at the time, and Daniel was a married man.
The two ended their relationships, with their significant others, for various reasons and got married in 2002.
Together, they have three beautiful children, including a set of twins (a boy and a girl) and another son who came into this world in 2007.
Just like every other couple, the duo has had their share of challenges and have been on several trial separations over the years, but fortunately, they now seem to be going stronger than ever.
Many people find it hard to believe that a man who gives as great relationship advice as Steve Harvey has been married more than once, three times to be precise!
But it seems like the third time was the charm for the presenter when he chose to pop the question to a fan of his, Marjorie Bridges.
The couple has been together for about 12 years now and the two first met when Marjorie was an audience member at one of his comedy shows.
Rumours flooded the internet recently that the couple was amidst divorce trials and that his career was going down the drain when he had two of his shows cancelled.
But Steve proved everyone wrong when he decided to make a big purchase and show off and proclaim his love for his spouse when he bought his wife a luxury car,
By doing so, he managed to kill two birds with one stone as he flaunted that he still has lots of money coming in and is as happy as a clown with his third wife!
Jessica Alba has managed to capture many hearts over the years, so it was no surprise that Cash Warren was once among her group of fans.
The duo met on the set of the Fantastic Four movie, as Alba was one of the movie stars in that film, and Warren had been working on the set of the film as a production assistant.
Luckily, his feelings for the actress were returned in kind and the two got married in 2008 and have three children together.
Her prior relationship actor Michael Weatherly (who was also a fan of hers) did not end well.
By the end of their relationship, she said she had no idea why she had gotten engaged to him in the first place. Ouch!
Clearly, she is much happier with Cash Warren, who we forgot to mention is the son of Michael Warren!
Legally Blonde bombshell, Reese Witherspoon, had quite the career before she met and married her man named Jim Toth.
Jim was a talent agent of a company that Reese collaborated with for business and when the duo was introduced, they fell in love and got married in 2011.
They had a baby the following year and are still together and thriving. Jim has been Resee’s support system and even weathered the storm with the actress when she was arrested for disorderly conduct in 2013.
The two started dating four years after the demise of her marriage to fellow actor Ryan Phillippe.
Ryan was said to be flirting with other women, constantly, even at Reese’s presence. Shame!
Ryan eventually cheated on her with Abbie Cornish, another blonde actress which made it a lot easier for us to understand that he probably has a thing for blonde beauties!
Adam Sandler met his wife, Jacqueline Titone, sometimes in the nineties. The star had already movies like Billy Madison, The Waterboy and Happy Gilmore under his belt and was already a big name in the film industry.
Jacqueline had been a huge fan of his back then and it all started when one of Adam’s best acting buddies, Rob Schneider introduced the two.
The duo started dating and their chemistry was pretty intense and it wasn’t long before they decided to tie the knot and walk down the aisle in 2003.
As of 2019, they are still happily married and have two children together. What makes thIS couple one of Hollywood’s favourites, is the fact that being married to one another for more than 16 years may only seem like a century in Hollywood Hills!
Recently, Adam paid tribute to one of his on-screen children, Cameron Boyce, who died due to an unsuspected seizure in July of 2019, and his supportive wife was there by his side.
Kelsey Grammer’s marriage to Kayte Walsh was quite the scandal, as the actor was already a married man when he met his future wife Walsh.
The two met while Kayte was working as a flight attendant on a trip Grammar was taking.
Rumour has it that Kayte, who was a huge fan, was the reason why Kelsey’s third marriage to Camille Grammar ended. After much drama (some of which played out on a certain TV show) Grammer married Walsh the same year his divorce to Camille was finalized.
The scandal shocked quite a few people, but many were not surprised. Kayte is Kelsey’s fourth wife with whom she has three children with (one born in 2012, another in 2014 and the third in 2016) meaning that the 64-year-old has a total of seven children.
From the looks of it, they appear to be going strong.
Patrick Dempsey, best known for his role as Mc Steamy in Grey’s Anatomy, is another celebrity who married a fan, Jillian Fink.
The couple met when Patrick needed a hairstylist in mid-1990s and Jillian was the one to attend to his hairdo needs!
According to Jillian, she was more than shocked to see his name as an appointment because she was a huge fan of his work. By that time, Patrick had already become a household name, as he starred in ten more movies and had significant roles in three TV series.
The spark between those two was instant, they started dating and decided to make it official in 1999 when they exchanged their “I Dos”. This year marks their 20th anniversary. So let’s all drink to that!
What many people don’t know is that Jillian filed for divorce in 2015, but the couple managed to work things out and finally called the divorce off, nearly two years later, on November 2016.
Another relationship going strong in Hollywood is the one between Liza and Conan.
Conan O’Brien is a popular comedian, a talk show host and a producer who fell in love with a fan, Liza Powel who just happened to be in his show’s audience one fateful night of 2000.
He found out more about Liz when she made an appearance on a skit advertisement for his show and wasn’t long before the comedian realised that Liza was the love of his life. A year and a half into dating, Connan made the bold move, popped the question, she said Yes and they got married!
A few years into their marriage, Conan was the victim of stalking by a superfan who also happened to be a pastor.
After years and years of incidents, the religious leader was defrocked and Conan and his wife were free to live their lives happily.
Josh Duhamel was working on the set of Las Vegas for his Las Vegas Show in 2004 when he convinced the producer to invite the Black Eyed Peas into the show.
You see, Life as We Know It actor Josh saw Fergie perform and was smitten by her voice, looks and dance moves. And we can’t blame him for that, right?
The two were introduced, liked each other enough to start dating and eventually the match-made-in-heaven got married.
When introduced to one another, Josh was not afraid of coming too strong to his future ex-wife, Fergie, as the first words that came out of his mouth when he saw her were: “You’re hot!”
During their marriage, Fergie considered it wise to come out and told the world that she was bisexual; yet it had no impact on their marriage whatsoever.
Their marriage lasted almost eight years and they have a beautiful son together.
However, eternal marital bliss was not in the stars for them, as the couple decided to part their ways in 2017.
Today, the duo on the best of terms and have decided to maintain amicable relationships and keep it as civilised as possible.
