John Christopher Depp II is undoubtedly one of the most famous people in the world. The star has made quite a career for himself in Hollywood and at one point, he was even the highest-paid actor in the world.
He continues to grasp audiences to this day with his stellar performances, but as of late, he has been letting his fans down.
In a string of bad decisions, lawsuits and physical assault cases, Johnny Depp’s name has been dragged through the mud. From a dark romantic relationship to many failed professional ones, the star has been experiencing some pretty bad times and it’s been going on for over three years now, leaving his supporters stunned, confused and disheartened.
These are the seven times that Johnny Depp has disappointed his fans.
Box Office Bombs

Johnny Depp is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, even making it into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2012 for becoming the highest-paid actor in the world. It is estimated that the movies Depp has starred in have grossed over $10 billion worldwide.
But not every role yielded good results, making for a few box office bombs that left people a bit baffled.
Some of his biggest fails include The Libertine, The Tourist and surprisingly Alice Through the Looking Glass. His movies, Mordecai and Transcendence, were annihilated by movie critics and his performance in The Lone Ranger as Tonto did not help either.
To many people, this was just a minor disappointment because it was highly possible that these box office bombs were due to bad marketing, the movie’s uninteresting plot and other factors the actor had no part in.
The Australia Customs Incident

In 2015, when Johnny and the crew were filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the actor and his wife, Amber Heard, were accused of smuggling their two dogs into Australia.
The two lacked the necessary information needed by Australia’s Ministry of Agriculture to bring their teacup Yorkshires, Boo and Pistol, into the country.
Amber was fined approximately $10,000 for making false declarations to the country’s customs unit when she claimed to have no animals with her.
The more serious charges of 10 years in jail for illegally importing animals was dropped, and the two stars appeared in a video making an apology shortly after.
It was a strike against the actor and actress and people frowned at their seemingly careless actions.
Possibly Lying About the Customs Incident

The incident with the dogs being brought to Australia was almost forgotten.
That is until it came back with a vengeance. The case took a turn when Johnny’s former management revealed that the incident was no accident and that the stars brought the pets with them, knowing that they did not have the permissions to do so.
It means that additional fines and even charges could have been made if evidence was found to support this claim.
More backlash followed when the public heard that Depp had allegedly “pressured one of his long-term employees to ‘take the fall’” for the entire thing.
His Divorce From Amber Heard

In 2016, Amber Heard reportedly asked a friend of hers to call 911 on her behalf because she was being beaten up by her husband of about one year, Johnny Depp. She got a temporary restraining order and sometime after the incident, pictures of the actress with bruises on her face surfaced.
Depp has maintained his innocence and explained that Heard painted the bruises on herself.
The weird thing is that, according to rumours, many of Johnny’s friends advised him against marrying Heard in the first place, especially without a prenup- possibly because she had a history of being violent herself.
The truth of what really happened is still very muddy, but the two are now divorced and Amber walked away with some of the actor’s millions, seven to be exact, by the time it was over- money she donated to a good cause.
To say that people were shocked was a gross understatement, and even though some fans stood behind him, being associated with domestic violence, whether true or not, was very damaging for the actor’s career.
The Battle Between Him And Amber

Johnny eventually countersued her in a defamation lawsuit (for $50 million, which is still pending investigation), but the damage was already done.
After the incident, people boycotted the actor’s films and started a petition to get his roles, as Grindelwald in the Harry Potter spin-off film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Crimes of Grindelwald, re-cast.
It was one disappointment in a long line that the actor would experience in the years to come.
As the case went on, things got increasingly nasty with the blame being pointed in every direction. People blamed Amber and said she had a history of being violent in relationships and some of Johnny’s closest friends stood up for him.
But Amber kept finding ways to counter. While some understood the struggle that Johnny was going through, lots of fans just wished he would be done with it all and move on.
Awful Financial Decisions

Johnny has never hidden the fact that he grew up poor. Although his dad was an engineer, he was largely absent from the star’s life and so he lived with his mother and his three siblings.
He’s said that his mother had to work double shifts as a waitress and still, it was barely enough to get them by. As he grew and his career took off, Johnny got a taste for the finer things in life and managed to earn a whopping $650 million in just 13 years.
But he hasn’t been doing very smart things with his millions and rumours that the star was going broke (in 2018) was soon all over the world wide web.
He spent $5 million sending one of his favorite author’s ashes into space (or the sky), spent a rumoured more than $30, 000 on wine a month, had an alleged staff cost of $3.6 million a year and is said to spend approximately $2 million on his monthly bills.
Blaming Others For His Spending Habits

Not many people could believe that their favourite pirate would be as equally reckless with his money in real life as he is in the movies, but it turned out to be true.
The actor ended up selling one of his yachts in the process and blamed his management company for the entire thing. He sued them and accused of them mismanaging his money; he said they were profiting from the money he made without giving him a commission, they supposedly incurred late fines to the IRS of about $5.6 million, they gave his sister $7 million without first consulting him and they ultimately owed him $25 million.
The case is still going on, but as of July 2018, it was reported that most of his money was gone.
To some degree, his fans understood that there were some things that his management should have informed him of.
But they also understood that Johnny Depp is a fully grown man who should be able to spend his millions properly.
Unpaid Staff Wages

The very same company who had represented the actor countersued him and said there were damages and unpaid fees owed to them by the actor and that their ex-client had a “compulsive spending disorder.” They told the courts that Johnny owed them an excess of $4 million in unpaid loans and broke down his spending habits in their documents.
And that wasn’t the half of it. After his financial woes came to light, some of the people who worked in the star’s security team came forward with accusations that not only said their wages were unpaid but that it was almost impossible to be around the star for extended periods of time.
Two of Johnny’s former protectors stated in a lawsuit that often, they were “ forced to protect Depp from himself and his vices while in public,” and even spoke about an alleged time where they had to inform the star that there were illegal substances all over his face.
The bodyguards said that their work environment was “toxic and dangerous,” that there were “constant labour code violations” and that Johnny now owes them “significant unpaid wages.”
Again, fans and non-fans alike were shocked and let down because the star’s success is well-documented- and there was still more dark times ahead for Mr Depp.
Behaviour On Set

Fans never really expect their favourite actors to be mean or even violent in real life, but it’s one of Hollywood’s best not-so-secret secrets.
And one of the alleged guilty stars is Johnny Depp, who now has a reputation for his bad behaviour on set, which has been rumoured to be aggressive and even physical in some instances.
In 2018, he was sued by a location manager by the name of Gregg Brooks while filming City of Lies for physically assaulting him while the star was purportedly intoxicated.
Before that, it was noted that he would often show up for filming extremely late, causing the budgets of movies, like Dead Men Tell No Tales, to allegedly skyrocket and was even rumoured to have gotten someone fired.
His former management also revealed that the actor had given up even having to learn the lines in his scripts and chose to have someone feed it to him via an earpiece instead.
Beyond the physical assault case, there seems to be no concrete evidence that the star had any behavioural issues. But the rumours were enough to let thousands of his fans down and had some second-guessing whether it was actually worth it to go see his movies at all.
Renewed Rumors Of Drug And Alcohol Abuse

It’s no secret that the actor has dabbled in drugs and alcohol. In a 1997 interview, he admitted that he started smoking when he was just 12 years old and that drug and alcohol use began shortly after. In 2008, he revealed that he “poisoned” his body with alcohol and that he had been doing it “for years.”
The habit seemed to have been one that many people chose to ignore, but it came roaring back to the surface when his ex-wife, Amber, said that he had threatened to kill her after ingesting some drugs.
In an interview, Johnny said it was an insult to say he spent $30, 000 a month on wine- that it was much more. That, accompanied by his own account which led people to believe he was already abusing the potent liquid, made some wary of continuing their support of the actor.
He Says What He Wants When And How He Wants

While we understand everyone’s right to express themselves, Johnny doesn’t seem to care even in the slightest what he says and how he says things most of the times.
He admitted to a writer from the Rolling Stone that he was wearing two pairs of underwear during their interview and also that he had on six condoms on him as well.
He’s gotten into trouble for his mouth several times, one of the more infamous involved Donald Trump. The actor made a joke about the president being assassinated and it did not go over well, even with those who were not fans on the commander in chief.
It was just a string of events which made people think about whether the actor even cared about making people feel uncomfortable.
Johnny Depp Just Seems Lonely

This last one hasn’t disappointed fans as much, but it does make them sad. When the Rolling Stone interview came out, it was revealed that Johnny’s closest friend was his lawyer.
The actor lost two friends, one who died from a drug overdose and the other who shot himself and of course, his mother who lost her fight to cancer.
Besides his lawyer, he was surrounded by his household staff. He currently has no romantic relationships that we may know of and his children are busy with their lives – his daughter is a popular model.
The writer noted that the star’s closest companions were all paid and it stunned fans when they realized that that was probably very true.
But do you think it’s all over for him, or is there room for redemption?
