Let’s face it, many of us love to know where celebrities live or spend their vacations.
And, while many of them split their lives between different cities and countries, there are many places around the world where they often go back to, some of them well-known, others much less.
So, if you have ever wondered where famous people regularly flock, check out our list of places where you will easily be able to spot them!
Monaco, Principality of Monaco
Despite being one of the smallest countries in the world, Monaco is world-famous, and one of the main reasons behind it is its popularity among celebrities.
Monaco offers many benefits that are dear to the rich and privileged, like the glitz and glamour of its numerous haute couture shops, or the perfect location on the beloved French Riviera, but, most importantly, the fact of being a tax haven is the true magnet for celebrities.
In fact, Monaco, despite being a country with one of the highest GDPs in the world, offers its citizens a generous zero-income tax, which pushes many of the rich and famous to settle there permanently.
The Principality is also iconically associated with famous events and staple landmarks, such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Casino of Monte Carlo, both of which attract a huge number of celebrities every year.
Austin, USA
The Texan city of Austin is a favourite among celebrities, thanks to its relatively small size and its unique charm and creative scene.
Austin is also a go-to-place for actors and directors, which find it the perfect setting for movies and TV shows and hosts famous events for cinema aficionados, such as South By Southwest, Austin City Limits and the Austin Film Festival.
The city offers a relaxed environment, with lots of things to do all year round and is home to one of the most developed indie music scenes in the entire world.
These are some of the reasons why it’s incredibly easy to spot famous people downtown, where you will likely bump into the likes of actors Elijah Wood, Owen Wilson, Renee Zellweger, rapper Nelly, and many other famous people who call Austin home.
Lake Como, Italy
Lake Como gained a lot of notoriety back in 2002 when Hollywood star George Clooney bought a $10 million villa in the quaint village of Laglio, the Villa Oleandra, a stunningly elegant mansion complete with 30 rooms, several swimming pools, and even a helipad.
Today, celebs like Madonna, Sting, Helen Mirren, and Sir Richard Branson all own villas on the idyllic Northern Italian lake.
Who can blame them? The setting is extraordinary, with its cute little villages and mountains surrounding the crystal clear lake waters and breathtaking panoramic views. It’s no surprise that the place became true heaven for the rich and famous.
One of Lake Como’s most visited places is the 17th century Villa Carlotta, which boasts an enormous luscious garden with more than 400 species of plants, flowers and even ancient sequoia trees, as well as amazing ancient statues crafted by the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova.
Maui, USA
Whether they come to escape the paparazzi, or to surf the waves, a lot of celebrities have decided to make Hawaii their home and often come back to it.
With its stunning beaches, permanent great weather, relative proximity to Los Angeles and relaxed atmosphere, the place is a hotspot for famous people, especially the island of Maui, the second largest of the archipelago.
As a matter of fact, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Clint Eastwood, and Owen Wilson, just to name a few, have all decided to build or buy a property in Maui, a location ripe with distinctive culture, superb restaurant and bar scene and stunning nature to make for a perfect home for the lucky few who can afford it.
Mykonos, Greece
The Greek island of Mykonos is a top destination for the rich and famous.
Come the summer months, the tiny island becomes absolutely packed with celebrities, from actors to sportspeople, from DJs to politicians. Along with them, Mykonos attracts also thousands of “normal” holiday-goers, especially young and party-loving ones, who choose it for its cool clubs and unbelievable location right in the middle of the Aegean sea.
However, a visit during the peak month of July and August can easily turn out to be a nightmare, as Mykonos becomes insufferably crowded, with every beach filled to its limit and most restaurants and bars ending up costing a fortune.
Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid are regulars at the exclusive Nammos Beach Club, while actors Gerard Butler and Leonardo Di Caprio have both anchored their yachts in the town port many times over the last few years.
Aspen, USA
The wonderful ski resort town of Aspen in Colorado is renowned for its glitz and glamour, making it the ideal location for celebrities from all over the world.
Its jaw-dropping mountain scenery has attracted over the years the likes of Mariah Carey, Will Smith, Brad Pitt, and Floyd Mayweather.
Aspen is the perfect setting for the privileged, thanks to its designers’ boutiques, top-notch restaurants, and dreamy hotels.
The apres-ski activities are also a long-time favourite. Have a drink on the outdoor patio at Little Nell’s Ajax Tavern, go dancing at the Shadow Mountain Lounge at the St. Regis, or dine at the Matsuhisa Restaurant for a chance to meet some of the most well-known celebrities in the world.
Capri, Italy
The southern Italian island of Capri, located in the Gulf of Naples, is an all-time favourite among the famous since the ’50s because of its incredible location and astonishing natural beauty.
Capri was like a second home for the likes of Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy, who were actually the first celebrities to put it on the map.
During any of its long summer days, Capri is ripe with well-known faces.
Regulars of Capri today are Beyonce and Jay-Z, who often reach the island aboard the ultra-luxurious Kismet, a rental yacht full of every single comfort you could think of, as well as the NBA superstar LeBron James, spotted several times in Capri while shopping in one of the many (very expensive!) shops along elegant Via Piazzetta, a must-go for A-listers.
Nashville, USA
Nashville is widely regarded as the country music capital of the world. As such, many famous musicians make it their home, attracted by the laid-back environment and the almost complete absence of paparazzi, which makes the town perfect for those who seek tranquillity and, above all, privacy.
That said, the town is definitely not a boring one! Head to the Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery for a chance to try some of the best whiskies in the world, check out the Gaylord Opryland Resort for a classy casino experience or play a nine-hole at the exclusive Metro golf course, and you will understand why celebs like Nicole Kidman, Wynona Judd, and Brad Paisley chose Nashville as their home sweet home.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
The town of Dubrovnik in Croatia has been a magnet for A-listers for a very long time. Actors, sports heroes, TV personalities and world leaders choose to head to the Adriatic town for a chance to enjoy its historical neighborhoods, its sophisticated restaurants and, most of all, its wonderful rocky beaches overlooking one of the most beautiful seas in Europe.
Dubrovnik was also chosen as the main filming location for King’s Landing, a fictional city in the famous TV series Game of Thrones.
Although tourism in Dubrovnik has especially blossomed in recent years, celebrities have been flocking to the coastal town since the ’60s, when stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren, and Roger Moore were gracing the place with their presence.
Saint Barthelemy, French Territories
The island is best known as St. Barts is a celebrity paradise, chosen for its stunning Caribbean setting, its top-notch restaurants, its glamorous nightlife, and its haute couture shopping options.
A land of true jet setters, St. Barts is the perfect combination of an exotic and unspoiled environment with a classy European feeling.
Unsurprisingly, many celebrities over the years have flocked there, most notably Leonardo DiCaprio, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, and Alessandra Ambrosio, all of whom also own a villa on the island.
Popular activities in St. Barts include kitesurfing, kayaking, and fishing, while you can also snorkel among wrecks in the fish-filled reefs, many of which are protected in a marine reserve.
The island also hosts a great number of music festivals throughout the year, celebrating its unique heritage and promoting its Caribbean culture.
Cartagena, Colombia
Colombia is definitely an up-and-coming destination, and Cartagena is rapidly becoming one of the favourite spots for celebrities.
Located on the country’s Caribbean coast, Cartagena is one of the most beautiful colonial settlements in Latin America.
Its beauty, however, hides a dark secret. Cartagena, in fact, was built to host the gold and slavery markets in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Still it remains, to this day, a heavenly destination, with its colorful buildings and elaborated balconies adorning the quaint little center.
Colombian native Sofia Vergara, Javier Bardem, and Anderson Cooper return there every year, swayed by its enchanting atmosphere and exotic setting.
Dancing is an absolute must in Cartagena, so head to one of the many clubs around town and enjoy the delicious local cuisine at La Cerveceria or at Malagana Cafe.
