Models, actors, singers, influencers… everywhere you turn you see beautiful women, and men, looking like.. Well models! Not fair right? Why do they look like that? And most importantly…how do they do it? Do they work out all day, do they have personal trainers telling them exactly what to do to look like greek gods and goddesses? Do they even eat or did they find a miracle solution to weight loss?
The answer is.. Yeah, they probably do all of the above! But why do we care?
The things we see on TV, magazines, online, they affect us! For the past two decades both men and women have started feeling like they are supposed to look flawless!
We have reached a point where we think that if we don’t look like that as well, we’re not worthy of attention or love! Biggest mistake ever!
We started thinking that if we’re not skinny enough, or strong enough, or even tall enough.. Well then we’re not normal!
All those picture-perfect “role models” (or just plain models) have created a norm. They created a new trend. One that tells people that weight is the most important thing in their life, and anything they do should revolve around that!
“If you eat this cupcake, you’ll gain this many calories! Is it worth it?” and my answer is, Hell yeah! I wanted to eat it so I did!
“You won’t look like her if you don’t eat your quinoa today!” well who cares! I wanna look like me!
All these thoughts, they pile up in our brain. They make us think that it’s so important that it can absolutely destroy our mood for the day! Or lift it if we just got on the scale and saw a “good” number!
You know what I’m talking about right?
But that’s not what the scale says! So you turn to look at yourself in the mirror again, and there it is! Suddenly you see what the scale has just told you! You look even more fat than the week before! How is that possible?
So instead of wearing that new pants you bought, you’re gonna wear that old baggy one that you have.. The one that you wore two days ago.. “I won’t look good anyway! Why put something pretty on?”.
Sound familiar?
We know the feeling..and it sucks! But there’s a way out of this!
First of all, you need to stop thinking that the average person should look like a model.
You should also stop thinking that you are average!
Believe me, all those people you see in the magazines you so eagerly buy every day, don’t look like that in their everyday life! It’s literally impossible to look so stunning and so effortless at the same time! Because guess what! They put a lot of effort to look like that!
If you do want to make some lifestyle changes, then go ahead and do it! No pressure, no stress! Enjoy the process of turning into a better version of YOU, but don’t let it get overwhelming! Don’t make it the number one thing on your list.. Because it really doesn’t deserve that spot!
If what you see in your mirror makes you smile, then why get on the scale to confirm anything? What if you were feeling depressed and got on the scale only to see that you had lost weight (Yes, this can happen too)? Would it change your mood? It probably would (only temporarily)! You let a number dictate your mood and your life! Just let it go!
Just a reminder friends, your weight has nothing to do with who you are. You, as a person, are made of so many other things. So learn to love whoever you are and accept yourself with your flaws and your beauty.
Not everyone has to look like everyone!
